The Buckinghamshire County Council has a wonderful historical photo archive, and the catalog of images there is astounding. The Program, Sharing Wycombe’s Old Photographs, allows keyword searching. It’s there that I found airial shots of RAF Daws Lea, home of a NORAD-like complex going several levels down into the earth. The base was also home of London Central High School, where not only my brother and sister attended, but where my father finished his career with DOD. My family owned a home right outside the fence line, and my mother worked in the student dormitory.
